Nursing and Oncology Nursing

Margaret Hjorth is currently the inaugural National Director of Nursing and Allied Health Nursing Director for Icon Cancer Centre – Australia and has a clear strategic role in the development of cancer nurses across Australia. Margaret has also held the position of chair of the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia (CNSA) Radiation Oncology Nurses Specialty Practice Network (RONSPN). This role has enabled Margaret to network with expert clinicians from across Australia to initiate and lead change in the way we care for this patient group. Margaret has a strong interest in developing resources and professional development opportunities for all cancer nurses. Margaret has developed practice principles for caring for patients undergoing radiation therapy with the aim to standardise patient care and ensure positive patient experience and patient outcomes regardless of where treatment is received. These principles will now form part of the national standards in radiation oncology within Australia. Margaret is committed to advancing nursing practice through the ongoing development and education of health professionals within the specialty and beyond.

Oncology Nursing

Leisa has worked within cancer care for 30 years. She holds a Bachelor of Nursing, Graduate Diploma in Adult and Vocational Education and Master of Nursing (Cancer Nursing) as well as a number of other qualifications. Leisa has held a variety of education and management roles in both the public and private sector. Leisa is currently the National Nursing Education Manager for the Icon Group’s Australian and Singapore Division. Leisa’s interests include policy and procedure development to assist with standardisation of care and best practice, the design of cancer education programs to meet the needs of all staff caring for people affected by cancer and advocating for the implementation of appropriate control measures to reduce the risk of occupational and environmental exposure to cytotoxic drugs and related waste. She has participated in the development and/or review of state and national documents related to cancer care. Leisa is passionate about enabling equitable access to professional development opportunities for health care staff caring for cancer patients in metropolitan, regional, rural and remote environments within Australia or overseas. As co-author of the Queensland Government’s Queensland Remote Chemotherapy Supervision Guide and the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia’s Clinical Practice Guidelines for Teleoncology, Leisa has assisted in the drive for patients to receive cancer care closer to home by using a TeleEducation model to build workforce capacity for all health care staff regardless of their geographical location.

Mr. Nawaf is a focused, determined and capable clinical nurse specialist in emergency with a demonstrated track record of providing world class health care to his patients. He has managed volunteer works in a variety of nursing positions involving a wide range of complex & conflicting priorities. He has a power and energy to do many researches to improve nursing and emergency department in general.
